For the DEEP South journey we have carefully blended quality time in Thailand´s most beautiful and unique natural treasures: tranquil mountain lakes; wild, remote jungles; sleepy, rural villages; and pristine, velvet beaches; with outstanding opportunities for study and service.
We will meet at the Surat Thani Airport and travel by van to Kuraburi, a bustling little town near the stunning Andaman Coast. After a delicious family-style Thai dinner and group orientation, we will settle in for the night. Early the next morning we will board a boat destined for the idyllic Surin Islands and savor a couple carefree days of snorkeling in some of the worlds most renowned reefs, as well as enjoy a unique opportunity to spend time in a Moken village. Next we will venture to a small, virtually untouched island called Ko Phra Thong (Golden Buddha) where we will immerse ourselves in inspiring daily yoga and Thai Yoga Massage classes in an open aired bamboo sala, followed by spacious siestas on our private beach. Our adventure will then continue in the coastal village of Baan Thalay Nok where we will be welcomed into the homes of local families for a few days of cultural exchange. Our days will be spent teaching yoga and Thai Yoga Massage, and learning how to batik, harvest cashews, fish with nets and prepare Thai cuisine like a local. The last leg of our journey will take us to Thailand’s renowned Khao Sok National Park. After a restful night by a tranquil river we will travel by boat to a floating bamboo village and spend two days exploring the surrounding jungle on foot and by kayak. Our journey together will conclude with a few surprises and a sacred Thai-style graduation ritual.

This journey will begin at 3:00 PM on January 29th at the Surat Thani Airport, and will end at 11:00 AM on February 12th at the Surat Thani Airport.
Returning to Bangkok: Experience has shown that by the end of our journey together, participants have come to LOVE Thailand and feel quite comfortable navigating it on their own; so not surprisingly, they don’t want to leave. We recommend that if you have the opportunity to build a few extra days or weeks into your itinerary, DO IT! But if you must return to Bangkok right away, flights from Surat Thani to Bangkok run very regularly and one-way fares are reasonably priced. The flight takes about one hour.
Please bring: yoga mat, meditation shall, journal, pens, head-lamp, thin sleeping-bag liner, pack-towel, alarm clock, watch, comfortable clothing to practice yoga and Thai Yoga Massage, sun-hat, sunglasses, day-pack or shoulder bag, bathing suit, sleepwear, sandals or flip-flops, walking shoes, toiletries, medications, camera.
Don’t bring: anything fancy or valuable – you won’t need it!
Will I have Internet and cell phone access?
Internet connection: We will not have internet access during the vast majority of this journey. Please let loved ones know that you will be unplugged and tell them not to worry. Turn on your vacation response and enjoy the freedom!
Mobile Phones: If you have an unlocked mobile phone, feel free to bring it with you. It is very easy and inexpensive to buy a Thai SIM card and pay-as-you-go minutes at any 7/11. We will be staying in some very remote areas, so tell loved ones not to worry if you can’t be reached by phone.
Should I exchange money?
Money: The exchange rate is approximately 30 baht to 1 US dollar. ATM’s are conveniently located everywhere in Bangkok and tend to offer a very good exchange rate. Most small shops, local markets and restaurants only take cash, but occasionally Visa and MasterCard are accepted at higher-end hotels and boutiques. PLEASE tell your bank and credit card companies the dates that you will be in Thailand to avoid having your accounts frozen due to “unexpected activity.”
How much money should I bring?
Budget: This journey includes all of your accommodation, transportation, course fees, entrance fees, group activities and group meals from the time you leave the Surat Thani Airport on January 29th until you return to the airport at 11 AM on February 12th. We suggest that you budget about $200 to pay for gifts, extra snacks, optional activities, and miscellaneous expenses.
Do I need a visa?
Passports: You must have a passport valid for at least 90 days following your departure from Thailand to enter the country. If you are an EU, Australian or American citizen you will receive a tourist visa on arrival good for 30 days. If you are from another country or plan on staying in Thailand longer than 30-days please read about visa requirements and other important details at http://thailand.visahq.com
